SWITZERLAND AND BELGIUM

March 4, 2016: The Royal Commissioner is visiting Switzerland and Belgium to conduct further analysis of storage facilities for used nuclear fuel.

The research will broaden the Commission’s understanding of specific details of safety regulation and licensing associated with proposed sub-surface storage facilities in those countries.

The Commissioner will meet with nuclear regulators and waste management organisations in both countries.

    Meetings with Belgian National Agency for Radioactive Waste and enriched Fissile Material (ONDRAF/NIRAS), the European Underground Research Infrastructure for Disposal of nuclear waste in a Clay Environment (EIG EURIDICE) and site visit to HADES underground research laboratory.
