The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission has today heard evidence from the UK on policies and approaches to siting a deep geological facility
Alun Ellis, Science and Technology Director at Radioactive Waste Management Ltd, was the witness for Day 2 of Topic 16 – High level waste storage and disposal –
RWM is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the public body in the UK responsible for addressing nuclear legacy issues and implementing government policy concerning higher activity radioactive waste. Within that framework, RWM is tasked with undertaking the process to establish a deep geological facility for the disposal of higher activity waste. Mr Ellis leads the teams responsible for the maintenance and development of specifications, designs, safety cases and supporting research activities for a deep geological facility in line with government policy. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Nuclear Institute.
