Day 34 review

The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal Commission today completed its final public session for the year.

Topic 11 – “Effects and threats of radiation” – was revisited after the witness was unable to appear last week.

Mr Steve Fisher from the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority gave evidence via video link from the UK at 6.30pm.

Mr Fisher is an Estate Safety Assurance Manager. In this role, he liaises with regulators, managers and operators at the NDA’s nuclear sites on a variety of safety issues, including radiation protection. He has over 20 years’ experience in nuclear and radiation industries, including as an operator at nuclear facilities and as a Nuclear Regulator for the Environment Agency, where he inspected radiation protection measures in place at those facilities. Mr Fisher is the NDA representative at a number of industry groups in the UK, including the National Dose Assessment Working Group and the Nuclear Sites Energy Forum. He covered:

  • The management of radiation exposure at nuclear fuel cycle facilities in the UK
  • Radiation doses received by the public and workers which are measured at nuclear fuel cycle facilities in the UK
